What is Hogsmeade?

Hogsmeade, Scotland, UK is a fictional settlement that appears in the Harry Potter novels. Hogsmeade is the only pure wizarding settlement in the United Kingdom and is located south of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Third year students and older are permitted to visit the village, as long as they have a signed permission slip from their parent or guardian.

The Three Broomsticks

The Three Broomsticks is one of the local pubs in Hogsmeade. It is well known for its delicious "butterbeers" and the beautiful landlady Madam Rosmerta. She lives above the first floor. Ron has a crush on Madam Rosmerta, but denies it.

Zonko's Joke Shop

Zonko's has jokes that could "fulfill even Fred and George's wildest dreams." It was closed in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; possible reasons include Voldemort's rise to power or competition from Fred and George's new shop in London. The twins planned to buy the shop before Hogwarts' students were banned from visiting Hogsmeade.

The Hogsmeade Station

Rubeus Hagrid meets the Hogwarts Express at Hogsmeade Station in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
This is where the Hogwarts Express arrives after travelling from King's Cross. Scenes involving Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films were shot at the station on the North York Moors Railway, built in 1865 and virtually unchanged, that serves the village of Goathland in the North Yorkshire Moors.

The Hog's Head

The Hog's Head is another pub, which attracts more unusual customers than the Three Broomsticks. It was here that Sibyll Trelawney was picked as the Divination teacher by Dumbledore. It is also the home of Aberforth Dumbledore, the bartender. It is known to be filthy, with several layers of grime on the floor and dust on the butterbeer and have the odor of goats in the air. The pub usually attracts seedy characters but Hogwarts students are allowed in. It also has lodging in the upper floors. The first meeting of Dumbledore's Army was held here.

Dervish and Banges

Shop that sells and repairs magical equipment, located near the end of the High Street

Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop

Hermione Granger bought a black-and-gold pheasant-feather quill here.

Gladrags Wizardwear

Gladrags Wizardwear sells clothes. There are other shops in London and Paris. Harry, Ron and Hermione bought Dobby socks here.

Madam Puddifoot's

For an unknown reason, Madam Puddifoot's place attracts couples. Harry and Cho went to Madam Puddifoot's on their first (and last) date. The Valentine's Day decorations in Madam Puddifoot's reminded Harry of Professo Umbridge's office.

Honeydukes Sweetshop

Honeydukes sells wizard candies of all descriptions, including Chocolate Frogs and Licorice Wands. The owners live above the shop, and there is a secret passage connecting the basement of the shop, and the statue of a humpbacked witch on the third floor of Hogwarts.

The Post Office

This place is filled with owls which are colour-coded based on how fast you want your letter to get to its destination.

The Shrieking Shack

This house is supposed to be the most severely haunted building in Britain. The Hogwarts ghosts avoid this place. Fred and George Weasley tried to get in, of course, but failed. When James Potter and his friends were in school, they used this house to hide out when Lupin turned into a werewolf. Dumbledore encouraged the theory that there were ghosts in there.
